Are Your Firm Core Values a Lie?

We are picking up on a conversation about core values that started in the episode with Rick Girard last week. Give it a listen if you haven’t already.

I've been anchoring to this concept of clarifying your core values in conversations that I'm having with law firms. I'm finding that most of them aren't clear on their core values as a firm.

I’ve seen firms confuse core values with mission and vision statements.

I often hear firms say that “Family First” is a core value. They put it in their employee manual and on their website. Family First is not really a core value when you’re getting frustrated with an employee leaving at 5:30 every day to get their kid to soccer practice.

You can use tests like the Kolbe and Strength Finders to clue you in to your team's core values.

It's much easier to hire the right people when you are clear on your core values, and you communicate them during the hiring process.

What You Will Learn in this Episode

It’s not a core value if it’s only valued when it’s convenient
