As we get close and closer to the new year, it’s important to form positive habits. One of the habits that you can apply to your work is to stop assuming your boss is a mind reader. Your boss could be many things ranging from entrepreneur to any level in the c-suite, and while they might be a great leader and wonderful individual, they will never be a mind reader. Listen in as the host of the show and Founder of Hiring & Empowering Solutions, Molly McGrath, sits down to talk about some of the ways you can make life easier for your boss. 



  • The victimized mindset of having a “bad boss” is no longer acceptable. You can’t expect a time strapped, high voltage entrepreneur or attorney to intuitively know what you are thinking.
  • The 10 things to stop doing to your boss are as follows; Entrepreneurs can be shortsighted so it’s your job as part of the team to hold the entrepreneur accountable, don’t be afraid to ask for what you need, stop saying yes or making up numbers, come to your boss with a problem only if you want help solving it, clarify and verify any information, trust your intuition, have courageous conversations in the moment, own the 5 levels of delegation, eliminate the words “can’t” or “don’t” in your law firm, and if you ask a question you don’t want an answer to, expect an answer you don’t want to hear.
  • Don’t be afraid to ask for what you need. You need to be clear and concise while explaining it is necessary. 
  • Entrepreneurs and attorneys love data so be accurate with data and don’t be afraid to say “I’m not prepared to respond right now, but let me get you the data right away”. 
  • Digging for sympathy or complaining about a co-worker without a clear ask or a proposed solution is just a way of delegating something to your boss. Only bring these issues to your boss if you want help solving a problem.
  • Oftentimes people will hold on to things that people say, and that can be an issue. Take the time to say “time out” and clarify what was just said to you to make sure you are on the same page. 
  • There are three sides to every side, what was said, what was heard, and what was actually meant. The business world was built by adults for adults, so be courageous and schedule a meeting to talk with your boss if you are upset by an email.
