Today’s guest is the Author of two books, “Serve to Be Great” and “The Mindfulness Edge”. Matt Tenney is the CEO of The Generous Group. Matt has been helping develop leaders with lasting impacts for 10 years and has worked with some very large organizations. Matt joins the host Molly McGrath to share some of his tips on how actually to produce lasting impacts for leadership training.

Takeaways:

  • When investing in leadership training, there is a follow-up process to making that you are turning information into behaviors that are repeatable and stick.
  • New information is fairly worthless if it doesn’t end up translating into new behaviors. At that point, it has just been a waste of time.
  • You need to meet your leaders on their level and make sure that the training lines up with the goals that they are excited about. If you don’t do that then the leaders won’t bring the new ideas and information to the rest of the company.
  • Nobody wants to set up one on one meetings with team members every two weeks but it’s important to set up the time and invest that time into solving problems rather than putting in the back end and spending more time hiring and firing employees.
  • We have been trained our entire lives to think that completing tasks and getting higher numbers is more important than building and maintaining effective relationships. However, this isn’t how it should actually work
  • Building in feedback from your employees is an invaluable tool for building relationships and for understanding where to improve any process at the office.
  • Consider looking at software that automates a survey that makes sure that you are meeting the needs of the employees in your office. This will help you understand if you are creating a successful environment in the office.

Quote of the Show:

“If I'm a leader and you don't tell me how what the training you're putting me through relates to the goals that I'm excited for, then forget about it.”
